Don't know what's happening with these guys, Connect FM is now Fun radio.
I got them on 88.1 / 92 fm and then on 1395am this morning live , guy was giving phone number and twitter ? did anyone else hear them ?
    Good signal in Town .

Had to edit my post now on 91fm also , they are live guy gave out the time just now ? It must be the early eighties since one station was on so many frequencies at once ? Nova or Sunshine ???

This is the re-emergence of the Christmas period station 'Fun FM' that suffered awful technical issues. There have been simulcasts with Energy 1395 an RETRO 91 over the last few weeks and there was a simulcast with Connect last weekend. Hopefully all the technical issues are resolved.

Re the 1980s stations - Sunshine operated 4FMs and 2AMs as did Q102 in '87/88, Nova maxed out at 3 FMs and for a short period 2 AMs though Novas AMs where considerably more powerful than Sunshine or Qs offerings.

Either you have a very short memory or you are being a bit disingenuous - look at the thread you started previously!

Edit: And there's this thread you started more recently....!
    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057847944
(Pirateradiohead was on the ball there!)

88.1 is the home of Kiss FM, which used to be (more or less) Easy Radio on another frequency. 92.0 is the home of Connect FM. Both are connected to Paul Wilson. 91.0 is the home of Retro FM which has some veteran presenters. The guys behind Energy on 1395 KH AM (or 215 metres) have been around for a while too. It all makes sense. The only bone of contention is the use of so many frequencies on FM.

Another Edit: My previous thread could be of interest too:

Hi, just to say thanks for the interest in FUN Radio, we're a bunch of anoraks having a little fun (hence the name) and enjoying 'real' music from the 70s, 80s and 90s. We're not going to change the world and we're not perfect, there WILL be technical issues from time to time but half the fun is in the fixing and setup isn't it? Keep your ears on and keep on trucking!

We'd appreciate reception reports on our various frequencies today....... can you let us know how we're sounding on 88.1FM, 91.0FM, 92.0FM, and 1395 Medium Wave?

    Thanks!!

I tuned in a couple of times today around Ballinteer and Dundrum. The reception is excellent on 92.0. It is pretty good on 1395 AM, too. It can be picked up okay on 88.1 but the reception is fair at best. I can barely pick it up on 91.0. I did notice that the other frequencies are slightly behind 92.0 so they must be relaying it with the main transmission coming from 92.0. I'm not technical!!

    Hi Declan ,

Where I was coming from was are these guys merging as they all came together again today and as we all have said this is not the first time , i suppose we will have to wait and see , anyway have to say the line up was pretty good , Paul Wilson & Paul Murray I have heard on Retro and Energy before . Best of luck to the guys .

The only bone of contention is the use of so many frequencies on FM.

No one of the 3 FM frequencies gives city wide coverage - the audio is a bit ropey unfortunately.

Point accepted. Paul Wilson is the guy behind Easy Radio, which now seems to be permanently online and now has a number of presenters. Their website is pretty impressive actually. He also appears to be behind both Kiss FM and Connect FM, but has indeed turned up as a presenter on Retro FM and Fun Radio.

I tuned into the online broadcasts on Easy Radio yesterday evening - obviously the best reception of all! It must have been Paul Murray I heard - is he from Energy? I just got the beginning of the next show - Aaron Hughes I think. He is one of the presenters on the online schedule for Easy Radio. So, the online presenters are crossing over into the unlicensed broadcasts!

Thanks to everyone who took part in the FUN Radio experiment yesterday, a true showcase of anorak cooperation and pleasure in broadcasting. There were a few hiccups but overall a great success and a fun day (hopefully for the listeners also!). 4 FM frequencies, medium wave and online with live broadcasts from 9am to 9pm. Thanks again!!

Keep it live, the listeners deserve no less (voicetracking-free zone)!

Paul Murray I have heard on Energy AM a few times , didn't know it was online yesterday . Nice to hear some of the old voices from the 80s on air yesterday .

Now that Paul Murray is not hiding his identity, could you tell me his previous radio experience?

Whoops! Sorry about that. I got a bit complacent with my assumptions. I will be careful from now on.

Any station that has used 91MHz as a frequency has been raided quite quick in the past 2FM don't tolerate any pirate in between there Dublin flag station frequencies . Couldn't get any signal on 91.MHz yesterday in the city ( Docks )

I think Declan was replying to Mick saying he couldn’t pick up Retro FM yesterday as opposed to the frequency issue

Thanks piratehead. You hit the nail on the head as per usual! When I first heard Retro FM last year, it did broadcast during the week, but it seems to have restricted itself to weekends only for quite some time now.

In relation to the issue of the frequency 91.0 being used, I suppose that depends on the strength of its signal and where it can be picked up in Dublin that might be an issue with 2FM frequencies. I know the signal is pretty varied around my neck of the woods (usually fairly weak) and it certainly can't be picked up around Blackrock and further south. It does not interfere with 2FM around the Dundrum area. Because its signal is not really strong, the issue of interfering with 2FM transmissions (or just annoying them!) may not arise.

I can’t imagine, judging purely on Retro’s signal and coverage, that they should interfere with 2FM. More fool them if they do obviously, but hasn’t 91.0 been used by Ministry or something else in the not so distant past?

if i remember rightly ministry used 91.6. it was for about a day though and they remained on 93.2. around 2005/6 that happened i think. great station.

Didn’t they use it for a brief period in 2013/2014?

Retro FM on 92.0 since the weekend. Maybe the Paul Wilson-involved stations - Retro, Connect and probably Kiss - have merged and now all run as Retro?
Energy once again did their own thing on 1395 KHz
