Hi, I recently bought a new laptop, the guy was talking to me about doing a backup or reset for an extra €35 , I declined the service, so then he opened the new laptop box and took out the disc ( I assume). Why would he need to open the box and take something out? Thanks

Why would you do a back up of a laptop that hasn’t even been turned on. I say he was charging you to set it up.

Why he opened it and took something out I wouldn’t accept it. I’ll be asking for a new one

you technically bought a second hand laptop, if another hand touched it after leaving the factory. I'd bring it back.

That is very strange. What was the shop?

It is a well known shop, I just wont mention the name, I might contact them first; I actually just see that they have their own Board. I paid for the laptop anyway because this is a one off purchase for me and I just assumed this was normal. But it is bugging me now, why did he open the box and take something out? Maybe it was a set up disc or something that he was talking about and because I declined the set up, he took it out??

Sounds odd. Is there no list of contents anywhere in the documentation.

Was it a disc or paper they took out was it inside completely i know that with most boxes they have only small seals closing the box you can still slide paper or disk under the lid with out opening box. But getting it out would require opening in some cases but it should not fall in with laptop itself. See it a lot with screens paperwork put in under first lid.

If I bought a laptop from i.e. HP and someone in the shop would open the package in front of me, took sonething out and then tried to sell it to me, they'd need to have a pretty convincing explanation for me to not walk away.

Currys/PC world. Think it's a memory stick they try and sell with god knows what on it.

Laptops don't come with disks anymore and haven't for many years, especially not OS or backup disks.

Was the laptop on display or a customer return, unsure what the issue is here?

was it Currys / PC World ?

    http://www.bbc.com/news/business-43418774
Currys PC World has apologised after customers complained they were pressured into paying up to £40 in set-up fees for a new laptop.

Consumer group Which? said 108 customers had reported being given no choice but to pay the extra amount when they collected their laptop.

Which? said it had raised the issue with the firm "multiple times" since 2015, but continued to hear complaints.

It used to be that you needed driver disks and such , but for most consumer laptops windows has them built in, and besides you can download the rest easily enough, you can even download windows too.

What you don't get is the trials/demos that a lot of people use PC decrapifier to remove
