New car delayed

Was due to collect new car last week. Because of a transport issue and then the snow it will now be Wednesday before the car is ready to collect.

I’m trading my car against it. Tax was up on nine end of February. I didn’t want to pay tax on it for a couple of days. Now it’s dragging on and I’m worried about driving with no tax. Haven’t been well so car hasn’t moved. Need to go to a funeral Monday. Is there a grace period. Am I ok to drive it? I don’t want to risk a fine but don’t want to fork out for 3 months tax!

YOUre usually grand until it’s a month. Obviously at the gardas discretion but I’ve never heard of anyone being done for being a few weeks out.
Traffic wardens can issue fines if you’re parked in a public place though and there is no discretion or comeback there.

Usually you'll be Ok but strictly you could get a fine as there is no grace or discretion.

Keep some paperwork relating to your new car order and shipment dates with you and if you're stopped, produce it, be nice, acknowledge the situation and explain that you were hoping not to fork out for the sake of a few days. You might get out of it if caught at a checkpoint.

You’ll be grand. What are the chances of getting checked? Very very slim I’d say. I can’t remember the last time I went through a checkpoint tbh.

Everyone is saying it's only a few days out. It's 10 days at this stage, 1/3 of the way into the month.
It's up to you whether you drive without tax but there is no guaranteed discretion from AGS but I'm sure those here who say you'll be grand will pay your fine if you're stopped.

    I'll pay the fine

    Do the sums.
How long have you been driving?
In that time, how many checkpoints have you been through?

Divide one by the other, then divide by total miles driven.

That's your chances of getting caught going to the funeral on a Monday morning.

(disclamer: may not be actual formula.)
