So I am buying a used car from a friend who is currently living abroad and I need to change the vehicle ownership but I don't have their signature on the logbook to send away.

Can this be completed by the person overseeing the sale of the car (Family member) or how do I get around this?

    Cheers.

Legal way is owner but I've known many to scribble a signature.

Once not theft there will be no issue or follow up.

There's a fantastic service called "post". Or "mail", depending on where you're from.

You can send a document to someone by enclosing it in an envelope, writing their name and address on the envelope, paying a fee, and "posting" it. it disappears into an international postal network, and some time later your intended recipient will receive the document.

Now here's where things get really clever.

He can sign the document, pop it in an envelope, and put your name and address on the envelope, so that when he posts the letter you will receive it.

    Pretty smart, eh?

Wow, maybe rein the smartness in a bit?

Do it the proper way by post instead of essentially forging the signature.

    Does car have tax/nct etc?

Has NCT and needs to be taxed. Problem is the owner is travelling and doesn't have a fixed address so I don't know how long it would take to reach them.

Get family member to sign simple.

What happens if you send the form filled without owner signature?

I could nearly bet it would go through.
Not advising to do it though - just a thought.

If it went through then it means someone at Shannon made a grave mistake.
    No signature, no sale.
