Well lads, I have a 99 starlet here that I'm thinkin of turning into a van, I'm doing an apprenticeship and don't have money for a van so I hatched this plan. I was told whether it's true or not that if it's under a certain weight that it's exempt from both forms of test, if anyone has any knowledge on this is appreciate the feedback. Thanks.

And if anyone turned a car into a van any ideas will be welcome.

    For NCT https://www.ncts.ie/faq/
Are any cars exempt from the NCT?
    * Motor vehicles used only on islands not connected to the mainland by road and motor vehicles belonging to the Armed Forces, the Garda Shana or the Fire Service are currently not subject to mandatory roadworthiness testing.
    * Vehicles registered before 1980 are also exempt from the test.
    * All Heavy Good and Light Goods Vehicles must be inspected at an approved VTN centre and NOT at an NCTS centre.
Please note: Light Goods Vehicles are classed as the following: have the capacity to carry only two passengers, have no side windows and no operating rear side doors

If you own a motor caravan, you'll need a Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness test to renew your CRW.
Motor caravans that weigh 3,500 kg or less need an LCV (light commercial vehicle) test.
And motor caravans that weigh more than 3,500 kg need an HCV (heavy commercial vehicles) test.

They changed that about 10 years ago.
