CCTV in locker room.

Hi all can anyone help me please.

Today in my local gym I noticed a sign in the locker room that I have not noticed before, but I am not sure if the sign has been there all along but I only noticed it today.

Basically the sign was warning that there was cctv monitoring in the building. Once I noticed the sign I had a look around the locker room didn't see any noticeable cameras but out of the corner of my eye I noticed what looked like a small camera in the ceiling.

I am not 100% sure that it is a camera but I have worked for a company who had covert cameras everywhere I am a bit suspicious.

I am also not too happy with the idea of being filmed if it is a camera. I'm not body shy or anything like that just don't like the idea of being filmed in such a private place.

If it is a camera are they allowed to have it filming people while they are getting changed?

Mods I have posted this elsewhere. I'm not sure what the protocol is but I wanted to let you know.

No, it's not allowed. It's unlikely that it is a camera unless someone's gone rogue. No legitimate CCTV company should install a camera in a changing room. Also a bit unusual that a CCTV sign would be in a gym changing room. Just ask is the best thing.

Perhaps there is a camera (outside) covering the door to the changing room, so the sign is effectly warning those leaving that they are about to enter a CCTV covered zone

Sign says "building", be very unusual as well as illegal in the locker room and would probably result in zero members and legal action

Well perhaps, but if that's the only sign it wouldn't be sufficient as people would have already walked through the covered zone to get to the changing room. The signs are supposed to be at entrances, which I'd take to exterior rather than interior. Perhaps just put up without thinking, but it's not the best place for it really.

I'm just guessing but the OP only noticed it today and probably hasn't noticed all the other ones around the building - who goes out of their way to look for signs like that. Can't remember the name for it but we tend to ignore things that have always been there and only notice new things (like when driving home and then you think ohh wow I'm home already)
