Are all half inch pipes created equal?

    Hi all,
Quick one regarding half inch cooper piping.

I have quite a lot of green collared tectite fittings on the half inch pipes in my house. I know that these fittings are Imperial half inch and the tectite fittings with the brown collar are metric half inch. As far as I remember it's 14.7mm v 15mm.

So potentially a stupid question here. Are these fittings for two different pipe diameters or is there only one type of half inch pipe in Ireland?

    Unfortunately we have both.
1/2" pipe is the most common, but often enough you would find 15mm pipework in an installation.
The same for 3/4" and 22mm.
Ironically in the U.K. it is all metric, 15mm and 22mm etc.

    Cheers.

So if I ask for a half inch fitting I'll get the 14.7mm flavour and if you wanted 15mm you'd have to specify I guess.

I appreciate the reply to what did turn out to be a daft question.

Yes, ask for 1/2" or 15mm, same for 3/4" or 22mm.

What thread is on the Irish fittings? Is it metric?
