Busted laptop...what can be used for another

    I have another lying around, not in great condition either, what parts can be inter-swapped...or are chips i5 or graphics cards worth selling on?...

    Mostly just the hard disk, maybe the ram if similar age machines, sell the rest as parts/repair or just scrap it. The screen might be worth a bit, but I'd say most people wanting a new screen would but a new one.
    Most laptops have on-chip on on-board graphics.

    It really depends on the laptop. A lot of laptops in the last 5 years or so have the CPU and RAM fixed to the motherboard. It is possible that the RAM, and hard disk are removable, but there isn't too much value in these I would have thought. And it will depend on what RAM it is, DDR2/3/4 and the speed.

    There's EIGHT generations of "i5".

    At this stage for general use i5 just means something better than an i3 of the same vintage.


    Use CPUZ or BIOS to ID the RAM and CPU and see what ebay says.

    You could also leave it plugged it into your TV and use as a media thingy , wireless keyboard / mouse.
