I am in Northern Ireland, intending to buy a car for family member in Donegal, to replace 2007 Peugeot 307 Diesel.

Want a replacement with minimal running costs including fuel, tax and insurance. Will consider diesel or petrol (if economical)

Would like general guidance on what to look out for to ensure lowest ongoing costs.

307 was great, but Donegal roads a bit rough on suspension.

Also happy to get make and model recommendations.

Will probably source the car in NI, so any general advice on buying something with low VRT.

I know I can research most of the above costs online, but keen to narrow my choices before I start serious research.

    Thanks ColinK
