Selling High Quality Chinese Electronics in Ireland. Advice.

    Hi everyone,

I am looking for peoples opinions on Purchasing consumer electronics from China and Outside the EU.

There can be a few negatives when purchasing consumer electronics from outside of the EU, especially from china such as:
    -Long Delivery Times
    -Import taxes, VAT, and customs
    -Possible Fraudulent sellers
    -Difficult returns process
-Possible poor quality products or counterfeit goods.

If there was an Irish/ EU business selling high-quality Chinese electronics within the EU would you still purchase the items from China or would you prefer to buy it from within the EU?

The EU business would have slightly higher prices, but you would have the peace of mind that the list of negatives above would not come into play.

    Thanks in Advance. :)

I'm sorry if I placed this post in the wrong forum. If it is, I will move it to another thread. Thanks.

Discovery would be your big enemy.

If I want a hand grenade USB hand warmer then it'll be ebay Ill search, not your site. If you list on Ebay pricing is going to hammer you.

There is the world of people doing just this in the UK, and reselling on Ebay.
You would have a very hard job competing with them on price...and covering your postage, as they all offer free UK delivery (parcel motel included).

These Sellers have all of the UK as a potential market, while you will really only have S. Ireland. TBH I would try and find a sector to specialize in. Particularly something where spare parts, upgrades, etc would be your main market.
Eg. higher end chinese drones....but I still believe you will be wiped out by the UK Guys.
At this stage even a lot of the larger Chinese Sellers have opened EU Warehouses. The prices are higher, but include EU VAT and faster delivery.

You asked for opinions.....I wouldn't go down this road. Best of luck anyway if you do decide to go ahead.

It would have been an easy sell 10 years ago. Now you have Aliexpress, Ebay, Wish and Joom, plus a plethora of private sellers on Amazon to deal with, not to mention independent resellers in the UK and Europe.
I've seen plenty of Eastern European websites as well crop up recently too.

If you picked a product or a niche with little competition, then you might do well. I used to buy hobby electronics from China, but I've since started buying them from Irish resellers, just to avoid the month wait.

Tho I'd happily wait 4 weeks if there's even a tenner in the difference.

Thanks for your replies. I appreciate it. :)

I am looking to sell mainly items that are more difficult to purchase from Irish/ EU warehouses. All of the items are above €150.

Im still in the planning stage, so I will have to think more about the pros/cons for customers.

    Thanks
