    I think it's worse that this is the first thing to be thought of when an incentive like this is mentioned.

    If they are it's ridiculous because the same argument could be expanded to the bike to work scheme which is a benefit which is given to people and thwir employers to promote cycling to work.

    In Japan your employer is liable from the time you leave your house to go to work.

    I don't know the situation in Ireland.

    The hse pay mileage for using your bicycle for work purposes.

    They did, but then WishboneAsh broke the system.

    In Belgium you get 23 cents per km in tax deduction for cycling to work (or 500 EUR per year if you do a short 10km round trip every day) - although they don't exactly have an equivalent to BTW

    How about if your employer provides a parking space and you have a car crash on the way to work? Wonder has this ever being testes in court?

    How do they track if you cycle to work?

    I know a company that offered points in their company shop if you cycled to work. Every time you cycled you gained points. You had a sensor on your bike which registered as you entered the property. However people were just leaving their bikes outside work, getting teh bus there and doing the last 100 metres by bike. The company quickly stopped the promotion.

    Commuting is not usually the employer's responsibility, unless (a) you are travelling from your home to a site that is not your usual place of work, or (b) you are doing so in a company provided vehicle.

    Using the bus instead of cycling? Some are masochistic.
