    Hello All,

My father passed away in November. The solicitor is currently sorting out the will. As my father had very little in terms of money/property, we have been told there is no need for a ‘grant of probate’.

Would anyone be able to give a rough estimate on how much we will have to pay the solicitor?

Difficult to judge, this can vary wildly by solicitor. Many operate on a fixed administration fee for this type of service, others on a % of total assets. Would advise you ask the solicitor sooner rather than later what the estimated fee will be so there are no surprises (it looks like they have already been engaged for the Work, so best to clarify it ASAP). Sorry for your loss

Should the solicitor not have advised on this before they started.

Yes, it should be issued in a letter of engagement or otherwise known as an S68 to set out the legal costs expected for the body of work about to be undertaken.
