    Hiya guys,

Just a quick general enquiry. I got an email yesterday stating that our 1hr30 layover from Vegas to Dublin via philadelpia was cut to just one hour. I see from looking at the philadelpia airport website that it's one of American Airlines hubs so I'm hoping that there should be enough assistance on the ground if extra assistance was needed. Both legs of the journey are with American Airlines. Are we cutting this too fine, timewise?

Provided your origin flight leaves on time you should be okay. Your luggage on the other hand might be a day late – plan accordingly.

If your whole ticket was booked under one itinerary with AA then they are wholly responsible for looking after you in the event of delays or missed connections and they will possibly reroute you put you up over night. If you booked both flights separately then you’re screwed.

I booked through BA and all flights were booked together. Was talking to a British Airways customer rep and she said that only 50 minutes is needed for connections.

You'll be grand! Just go straight to your gate. The may even tell you the next gate before you leave the first plane.

You’re covered so, if you get delayed they’ll get you home via another route

That definitely puts me more at ease. Thanks for all the help 😀ps, just one final question. Will our luggage be put straight through on our first flights? As mentioned, it was booked on a single ticket. We're flying aer lingus from Dublin to Gatwick and then onwards with BA. Thanks.

Yes, luggage will go to the final destination.

PHL is a nice airport to connect in and should not be too hard - connecting domestic to international. It’s also an AA hub (ex US airways) and connections are their business. If worst comes to worst, PHL is a lovely city for an overnight - only one flight per day. Except when there’s snow on the ground. It’s the cradle of modern democracy after all; the place where there were declarations of everyone bing created equal!

Plan to miss your connection and to have your bags arrive after you a day later as others have said. At least that way you’ll have jocks, socks, deodorant toothbrush etc and it won’t be so much of an inconvenience. The onus will be on the airline to sort hotel and transfers and tickets for the new flights.

While it may seem tight it should be fine. You can get CCs to move you in the cabin before arrival to be near the door for a speedy exit. If you do get your gate number in Dublin you can search the philly website for maps so you’ll know whether to turn left or right etc.

Last of all don’t stress about it.

Thanks for the advice. After reading all what was posted, it's definitely settled the few worries that we would be stranded. If the worst thing is we'll have to stay an extra night, I think we can take that.

Let the crew know you have a tight connection and in most cases they will move you to the front door when you land before you deplane.

Can you clarify your exact routing? Orginally you said Vegas-Philly-Dublin, and then you added a Dublin-Gatwick bit.

If you're heading westbound from Gatwick to the US, you'll have to clear immigration upon landing in the US. Otherwise (flying non-stop from Dublin/Shannon to US or flying home from the US) there should be no concerns unless there's a flight delay.

Apologies for any confusion. I'm flying Dublin to Gatwick with aer lingus and then onwards to Vegas with BA. Then taking American airlines from Vegas to philadelpia with a 1hr layover before departing on another American Airlines flight to Dublin.

If it's heading home you've the 1 hour delay it should be more doable then. If your flight arrives on time you will make it :)

Hope you have a better experience than I did at Charles de Gaulle. Same issue, Air France had given me 1hr between the flights but upon arriving it was physically impossible to get to gate for the second flight on time (between getting off plane/transport to 2nd gate on other side of airport/security screening). Upon going to Air France desk, with a typical Gallic shrug, it was my fault as the first plane had landed on time! Ended up spending 8hrs in possibly the most boring airport in Europe. Considered leaving the airport for a few hours in Paris but it was an horrendous day weather wise. Needless to say, have never flown with Air France since.

AF sell overly short connections and often to flights that aren't even vaguely frequent. Very poor business practice

Air France and Charles de Gaulle Airport should be avoided like the plague, there is a very high chance of strike action due to the leftist French Unions. Staff are openly hostile and arrogant. I myself refuse to fly on Air France since AF449.
