Was using Adhell on my S7 but it seems to have stopped working. So now I've got all those annoying ads back on my pages. Any recommendations for other ad blockers for Android?

Just use Firefox and install the addon ublock origin. It works well. And it's a stable and well supported browser. Other options would be Opera which natively blocks most ads (not quite as well as firefox).

I never really bought into the idea of specific adblocker browsers...

Browser blockers are only half the battle.

I use BlockThis for global ad removal, but it's not exactly fantastic.

Not built in. Chrome (Google) makes a fortune from ads so its not part of the app.

Samsung browser with ad block. Best browser on android. Use it on my Sony Xperia XZ Premium.
Switched from chrome, looks good. But still getting ads on irish independent app and on independent.ie..... Any way of getting rid of ads from those?

Ghostery reports blocking 11 trackers on independent.ie. The ads on the right are suppressed. An app is always going to show ads it's creator wants you to see.

Timely topic, just today I've started having ads pop up on Facebook and WhatsApp. This a new policy of theirs or has something mischievous gotten onto my phone I wonder

Never seen adverts on WhatsApp, I have the Beta version installed on my phone.

I have been using Adaway for a long time now. https://adaway.org/

    It requires Root https://www.xda-developers.com/root/

For home usage, Pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi works really good

Ive seen a few but all they do is replace the ad with a black screen for however long it is, that's down to how YouTube do ads unfortunately.

Reuires Root and Magisk Manager (Only official place to download it not the Play Store).
    https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445

In Magisk Manager enable 'systemless hosts' and reboot.
    Then install Adaway.

Although, you can now install unified Hosts AdBlock Module from the magisk download list (I have not tried it yet) as it now as a GUI.

    Edited.
Just installed it there, and I still have no adverts on youtube on any video i have viewed.

The (compliant) noscript has been out a month or three for the latest Firefox Android, that's an extra layer that helps, on top of ublock, which can still be a bit hit and miss with aggressive window/tab scripts.

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/

You need to teach it/whitelist various site behaviours, but it doesn't take long, as you go.
