Car keys [Passat, Dublin]

    Hello,

Does anybody know where's a good place to have my electronic car keys checked for an 08 VW Passat?

I am guessing the battery is flat, although there was no red light warning suggesting that this might be case. Should I just go straight to a VW dealership?

I have been told in conversation that it's expensive to replace battery with an officially recognised part, but that a cheaper product from someone other than a official dealership could damage the keys.

Has anybody any worthwhile tips or suggestions?

    Many thanks.

The battery should be a button type. Google the battery type and YouTube how to fit it.

They are a CR2025 battery I'm 99% sure. They are really cheap, a good brand name one is about a fiver. You need to get a good one, the cheap ones you get in pound shops often don't work in those keys for any length of time if at all.

Those Passat keys are prone to failing internally though. It's more than likely you need a key I'd say. Are the buttons hard to push?

    Dublin.

The keys are not hard to push. I've just remembered, the key opens the boot but not the door.

There's a place at newlands cross that repairs keys. Have to be much cheaper than a vag garage (or technical facility as they will be called soon).

If it’s b6 Passat, holding the unlock part on key for a few seconds should open all windows, also works on Vw caddy van!
