Vasectomy Deception

    Hi,
I had a vasectomy at the request of my wife at the time. Four weeks after the vasectomy she ended the marriage and it has subsequently come to light that she was having an affair when we discussed the vasectomy and when I had the procedure. I am still young enough to want to have more children should I meet the right person. However, this option has now been taken away from me due to her selfish behaviour. Also, the fact that I can't have any more children has a material impact on my ability to meet another partner for obvious reasons.
My question is are there grounds for suing her for compensation for putting me through the vasectomy under false circumstances?

So you want to sue your ex wife for convincing you to have a vasectomy even though she'd been having an affair at the time? I'm sorry at the situation you find yourself in. I can understand your reasons for being angry and wanting to make her pay for what she has put you through. But honestly I cannot see how you could win a case where you gave full consent and went into the procedure fully aware of what was happening even if you were unaware of the cheating that was taking place. It just wouldn't stand up in court. You would be best off having it reversed. It is common enough nowadays. Then you can begin to start a fresh moving on with your life. Have you considered counselling? This would help you more than you may realise because you have all those emotions at high strength currently coupled with the fact that there has been deception. It will help you iron out where you go from here. You can of course have more children with someone else providing you reverse the operation. But for now I would concentrate on your children and the best and healthiest way to separate for all of you.

Moderator: this forum is for legal discussion. That is the discussion of legal principles and practice in and around the various topics that crop up. Making bald non sequitur statements like "you can't do that because it won't stand up in court" is not legal discussion.

Please bear in mind that people might assume that things people say to them in this forum are being said by lawyers and may, wrongly, take such statements at face value and rely on them to decide matters that will have serious real life implications for them.

OP, your circumstances are very unusual and in order to get an informed view of your legal rights, you will have to consult with a legal professional. It may also be necessary to get the opinion of counsel given the nature of your circumstances.
