Fridge to repair or not to repair?

I have an 5 year old Hotpoint Quadrio model FFU 4DX. Recently the top part stop cooling, i tried defrosting it completely but it only worked for a day. Usually defrosting works.
The bottom layer is cold but it is also stopping recently. There is an occasional loud noise from time to time but the noise goes for longer periods now like a helicopter.
I unplugged it a few times and the freezer is back working although not that great but now the top part/ fridge has stopped working completely although the light is still on. The noise is still come and goes. The wire on the top right hand corner has also snapped, I don’t know when but it seems to be a hotpoint fault.

The only reason preventing me from getting a new fridge is that my son won this in a competition, sort of sentimental value. I want it repaired if the cost is around €200 or at a push €300. It is being sold for €799 in currys but around €500 plus in other online retailers.

I am also entertaining the idea of fixing it myself. Is this worth getting repaired or its time to let go and buy a new fridge? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.Thanking everyone in advance.

as it is a frost free unit and from your description of the fault it sounds as though it is clogged with ice, the noise you describe is coming from the circulating fan clipping off an ice build up in the evaporator. probably a faulty defrosting heater element or a sensor. Ring Hotpoint service and get a quote for a guaranteed repair
