best way to get notifications of low pressure on mains

My day yesterday was ruined as, with no notice regarding our area Irish water dropped the pressure, meaning our tanks were emptied through normal use for 4 adults 2m 2f.

As we did not have any notice that the main pressure had dropped i spent 2 hrs trying to clear what I thought was an airlock and even rang an emergency plumber who advised that they had had multiple reports of similar issues in the area.

We are all professionals who need to be suited and booted for work  so not know when our tanks would refill meant we all had to get at least an hour early and make arrangements in gyms etc to get organised for work.

while i completely understand the necessity of managing supply my sunday and monday have been completely disrupted because we didnt have any communication.

What is the best way to get updates on irish water pressure alterations in your area.

I tried twitter last night to no avail so some help would be appreciated for a very frustrated customer

    Mairead,

The issue is now resolved but the lack of communication had us all out the door here before 6am and had me crawling around my house for hours looking for leaks!!!

where can we get actual on time updates?

Could I piggyback on this please?

I'm also in Dublin 8 (Kilmainham), my central heating is on the verge of packing up due to falling pressure in the boiler. I've tried at all hours of the day and night to top up the pressure, but nothing. Once the needle falls below 1 bar, that's the end of my heating until I can get more water into the system.

Is there a problem with the pressure in the area? Do you have any idea when pressure will be restored to normal? (it's never great at the best of times)

    Thanks.

Similarly, anything you can tell me about pressure reduction/service interruptions in Killester?

mairead clearly there is a bigger issue here that needs more than the stock response,

if you are engaging with customers via boards then you are putting yourselves our there as being wiling to engage in communication with a view to assisting customers

your current systems are not cutting it and frankly without a two way dialogue we cant alter our usage or behaviour to assist IW when there are problems.

can you please liaise with whoever you need to internally and revert in a fulsome nature and with a solution to improve the position for everyone?

Due to high demand on the reservoir, there may be low pressure and supply disruptions to your area. We are seeking updates on this and are updating wtr.ie/News with notices as soon as we are made aware of any disruption.

We are also updating our Supply and Service Page with any and all updates we receive.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and hope this is resolved as soon as possible for you.

We're very sorry that you feel this way and we are following up on any and all updates and updating our website as soon as possible to ensure that all users are notified as soon as possible.

We completely understand your concerns and will make a note of this to all relevant departments in order to improve our methods of communication forthwith.

We endeavour to notify all affected users as soon as we receive notifications, primarily though our website as soon as we are made aware of them by your local Water Department and continue to seek updates on the low pressure and disruptions affecting your area.

Once again, we would like to apologise and will take your feedback on board.

    Thanks,
    Mairead

Are there any times that pressure might be a little higher, or is there any way of finding something like this out?

I literally need five minutes to let some water into my central heating loop!  Used to be the case that with less demand at night I could do it at 2 or 3 in the morning - but even that isn't working now (I see elsewhere that pressure is being reduced at night in some areas as an emergency measure).

If I can't do this I'll have no heating.

And as of this morning I have no heating. Great.

I know it's not IW's fault, it's because I have an old system with a slow leak somewhere that neither I nor a succession of plumbers have ever managed to find.

    But still.

Does IW have any ideas about when the mains pressure might be a little bit higher, or is there any way I could find this out without sitting at the refill tap 24/7?

We're very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.

It can take time for supply to return fully to the network after works occur and any updates will be made available on our website as soon as we receive them.

    Thanks,
    Mairead
