    Howdy all,

It's that time of the year again - Oscars night! But it's also the time of year when a lot of people on an Irish internet forum vote for their favourite films of the past year.

Nomination threads are open now over yonder: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=480

A few changes this year (cue "ooh! aah!" from the audience). Firstly, we've trimmed down the number of categories, as frankly there were too many and a lot were going with only a few nominations. So, we've cut some categories out, amalgamated others, and made sure that we have enough categories to fit on a single page (well, desktop page anyway!). The Walk of Shame category is no more in its entirety, as we want to celebrate the good films rather than take cheap shots at the bad ones :)

In another change from years past, all nominations threads are up RIGHT NOW so no need to wait for the bunch of 'em to be put up later down the line! We may add one or two more fun categories later in proceedings, but the core ones are all up now for your nominating pleasure.

Thanks all for your posts and participation over the last year, always means a lot - even if it's just in that ****ing nightmare of a Last Jedi thread :pac:

To be fair, Isle of Dogs came out quite late to build up steam, but surprised that Lego Batman won out. Was animation that poor this year, or did we miss all the good mainstream stuff (if we keep things within the realms of realistic popularity).

So will all the winners be receiving awards in the post? ;)

I think that is a respectable selection of movies and winners. The Best Soundtrack category seems problematic though. There is a difference between a collection of existing songs and an original score. I agree that Baby Driver has the best use of existing songs but there were also some great original scores last year. It doesn't seem fair that they compete in the same category.

Also, Blade Runner looked great but I think War for the Planet of the Apes deserves the vfx award.

Arahh feckit, If I had seen these I would have definitely voted 'Good Time' as best soundtrack. It is incredible work. All of ' Oneohtrix Point Never's LPs are well worth checking out if you are into Film. Very visual inspired instrumental music. He has new album out 1st June called 'Age of', but all his works are well worth checking out if you are a fan of film.
