    Hi all
I have been saving for a few months now and am looking to get my first car now with a 6-8 k budget. I am looking for a diesel engine, no bigger than a 1.6 . I would like it it to be reliable , easy on the diesel , easy on the tax and insurance as I'm only 18 years old. I would also like it to be quick with good acceleration and fun to drive .
    Looking forward to the advice,
    Cheers

    1. Why diesel? Just out of interest.
    2. Easy on insurance? You’re 18. Forget about it.
    3. Quick on acceraration and fun to drive? See point 2 above.

Try an i30 or Kia Ceed/Pro Ceed with the 116bhp version of the 1.6 diesel.

    Fun to drive is relative.

I want a diesel as they are easier to insure.
I was definitely looking into an I 30 or a ceed alright. Would they be reliable? Would they be as quick as say a 1.6 TDI polo?

They would be the same sort of ‘quick’ as the Polo. They’re a bit heavier but also a bit more powerful.
I would get some insurance quotes as I can’t see diesel being cheaper to insure unless you’re comparing with bigger engined petrols.
The Hyundai/Kia are generally very reliable compared to pretty much anything else in that class.

Can’t stress how important getting quotes are at this stage. Most people yeah ur age start off on stuff like 1.0 Polos and Yariss and other small engined stuff.

Cheers Colm . Would parts be as readily available for the Kia's and Hyundai's as say the more popular cars like VW, Audi, Seat etc.

Parts aren’t too hard to get for them but certainly getting them for a VW/Audi is much easier as there is much more of an aftermarket out there for them and there is so much part sharing across models. Hyundai and Kia parts aren’t cheap, but in my own experience, you shouldn’t need too many of them.

As per the other posts, get a few quotes first before you buy anything.

My first insurance at 18 years of age cost me 5700 (punts at the time) for a 1.4 petrol. I've no idea what insurance for 18 year old are these days but I'd say it's still very steep so choose your car wisely.
