Are older locks in interior doors the same size, smaller or bigger than modern interi

I want to change my interior locks on my doors. Someone told me older locks are smaller than modern locks. Just wondering is it true. The interior locks in my house haven't been changed since the 90/2000's. I want to change my locks soon.

You should still be able to get a like for like replacement. Check what the manufacturer is, should be engraved in.
