Best streaming service for documentaries?

We are on the point of leaving Sky, which will mean we will have only Netflix and (when I get round to tuning/streaming them) Saorview channels.

Netflix is very so-so for documentaries, particularly of the arts variety.

What is the best source of arts and culture documentaries?

We are using a Google Chromecast to receive out tv now.

    Thanks.

    D.

You can use your existing Sky satellite dish to receive all the UK channels for free.

    Here is the full list

Saorview is received via an aerial.
You could just connect both feeds (satellite and aerial) to a combo box which costs about €90.
This will give you all the Irish and UK channels without requiring a subscription.
You'd still be losing all Sky's documentary channels though.

For streaming services, there isn't a lot out there. Maybe have a look at Amazon Prime video to see if their documentaries are any better.

    Thanks.

Odd that in 2018 a service needs an aerial.

Why can’t Saorview be set up like Netflix and Amazon and be cast via Chromecast or similar?

Because there are many parts of this island that cannot use Netflix, Amazon etc due to lack of broadband in 2018

    Totally agree.

But, there’s no reason Saorview can’t offer aerial *and* streaming connectivity surely?

Would you be happy to enter your tv licence number if it was a streaming service?
That could be a future possibility of ensuring people pay up.

There are lots of apps out there these days. Have a look in the google playstore and you may get a service like Netflix and can cast it.

Loads of web options. Some are free.

    I already have Netflix.

It’s recovering a few terrestrial stations after my Sky subscription ends, in the easiest way possible, that I’m looking into.

I currently view Netflix, YouTube and a few other things thro Chromecast.

Just wish I could view Saorview channels too. Would save money and having an aerial in a room in 2018! :)

    Many thanks.

You can get an external antenna. No more bizzare than using a dish.

AerTV has a few channels over the interwebs.

Totally agree with you re the dish. They are a plague.

Hence my desire to reduce all my reception to my coin-sized Chromecast dongle! ;)

    Thanks.

This is a Satellite forum. Streaming services are IPTV and there is another forum for that.

All very well if you can get the stations in a logical reecptable format complete with EPG and recording.

Tell me what happens when your broadband goes ?
