How difficult is it to smooth out a textured ceiling? Is it an expensive job?

I've seen some people say it's not too bad a job. It would be a lot of mess & scraping. I have changed 2 rooms & have another to do soon.
In my sitting room I took down the old ceiling & put up new plaster board. It was very messy taking it down but left a nice smooth ceiling to be skimmed.
For a bedroom we put up new plaster board over the existing ceiling. You loose a bit of height In the room but not noticeable. Also left very little mess. The ceiling in this room had dipped so we put new buttons across the ceiling to level it & fixed the plaster board to it.

Was it expensive to replace the plaster board and skim?

For the bedroom I did it myself. So only cost was plaster board, buttons * screws. We were getting all the walls skimmed at the same time so if say the ceiling added ~100 to the cost of skimming the room.
The sitting room I got someone to help. Paid €200 for materials & to have the waste taken away. Again was getting the entire room skimmed so maybe 100-150 added to skim the ceiling.
Apart from lifting the plaster board it's not a difficult job to do once you have someone to help.

Taking the Stipple off is Tedious, Tiresome, Messy and Dirty. It takes Hours to do one Ceiling. You need to wear a Mask and have a Wallpaper stripper to help soften it for removal.

Best job is to take down the Stippled Ceiling and replace it with an insulated plasterboard. You can do all of this yourself with a little help.
Then just get a Plasterer in to Skim it.

Don't make the mistake of putting new plasterboard over the Stipple. A possible recipe for disaster.
