Family accommodation options in NYC

    Hi all,
Seeking advice and wisdom from fellow travellers.
Travelling to NYC in August with wife, 2 children and infant. Have been scoping accommodation options but have hit a brick wall. All seems crazy expensive.
Would prefer room/apartment over hotel room but open to suggestions.
Is there any specialised websites or services that could help us out??
Also is it more cost effective to stay outside the city and travel in each day or stay in the city??
As far as I can see every area seems expensive, is there exceptions??
    Any other suggestions welcome.
    Many thanks in advance.

Airbnb - just pick your dates, number of rooms, budget, and a location close to Subway. Check out reviews. Also adjust if you are hiring a car re parking and try to put yourself on the right side of NY to your airport. Hope that helps...

Yeah, AirBnB is your best bet... In Manhattan is best for getting around, but places like jersey city or newport (which has a PATH station) are good options too just across the river that might be a bit cheaper. PATH train will bring you right into downtown or Penn Station...

Airbnb is illegal in Manhattan. I know a lot of people still chance it but short term rentals are mostly banned in NYC. Try hotels in Long Island City [the suburb in Queens not actual Long Island]. It's one subway stop from Lower Manhattan and usually much cheaper. Much handier than staying in New Jersey. You can get a 7 day unlimited pass for the subway for $32 each.

OP I spent a week in Manhattan in an Airbnb apartment last year. The place I stayed in was ideal for the family, very comfy and 15 mins from the subway stop around the corner into the city. PM me if you want details.

I think it was around €150 per night iirc, not sure what budget you have in mind. I did a good bit of research at the time and there were cheaper places that looked nice but they were a good distance out or a long walk from the subway, we wanted the convenience of being close to the city. We went everywhere by subway it’s great value if you get the weekly ticket.
