Getting Gas into a non-Gas estate

Hi, does anyone have experience of approaching Gas Networks Ireland to get Gas into a non-Gas estate? I'm interested in hearing how you got on, what kind of costs were involved and how long the process took.

Are Gas Networks Ireland obliged to do the work if 20% of houses sign up?

How far are you from the gas mains?

Our house is about 170 metres from the main road / mains. The first house in the estate is around 70 metres from the mains.

If you call GNI they will send someone out to review the estate, talk about required take up and costs.

I sent an email to Networksinfo@gasnetworks.ie.
They quoted approx 2 grand for connection bit I had to convince 10 other households to convert at the same time which would be the tricky part.

I would be a good bit closer to the mains than you. Within 30 metre I think

    Thanks for all the replies.

Doesn't sound like anyone has gone beyond the stage of getting a quote to actually getting the work done. I'm going to reach out to neighbours and see how many would be interested. Fortunately it's a small estate of 20 houses, so getting 20% to agree might be feasible.

Will post here again if i learn anything worthwhile.

Maybe have a word on the GNI Talkto forum.

There's similar posts on page 3.

Page 16 of this Gas Connection Policy states that 20% of residents on a road must sign up to be connected, so the number of houses who must sign up depend on the total amount of houses in the estate.
