I understand cases can take a number of months years decades but wondering if my solicitor is taking his time or should we be a bit further into this.

I was hit by a drunk driver in October, pretty serious accident, some bad injuries but I will recover.

Between doctors, bills etc I was advised to contact a solicitor about getting this money back.

I did this in October when I met him and explained the issue, he said if insurance call tell them its in the hands of solicitor. got nothing really back after mailing and calling a few times. In January, I met him again, since then again nothing, i have sent 3 emails with updates and called office 4 times.

2 weeks ago Insurance company rang me for an update, wondering if I wanted to go through them to claim, I advised solicitor is looking after it, they told me they have received nothing, I called office and explained, secretary explained he is busy as the other solicitor is sick but will pass it on,but still 2 weeks later not even an email.

To me it seems the solicitor has done nothing since October except meet me twice.

is this a normal turn around? im not expecting a miraculous updates but to me it seems 5 months and Insurance hasnt even been notified is stretching it a bit.

This sounds like poor performance. I know this is off topic, bit I think this is a good example of why the lawyers should not have been allowed to shut down Ratemysolicitor.ie

Take all your paperwork back and engage a different solicitor?

Suggest you ask your solicitor for a written report on the status of your case within ten days..
If no satisfactory report is supplied by then consider going elsewhere
Progress in such cases is often held up by delay in getting reports or information from other parties
