Hi, I am preparing for my test and today while practicing I went into a very slow queue ahead of a major round about. I followed the queue in first gear instead of clutched 2nd gear as I hear over cluthing would fail the exam. Am I did tje right thing?

What did your instructor or fully qualified accompanying driver say? :D

When starting from stopped - 1st gear.
When moving, whatever gear is suitable for the speed, situation, conditions you are in.

Although in snow like today, starting from 2nd can be safer to avoid wheel spin (depends on your car though)

Presuming driving conditions were normal (no snow or ice). Then I see nothing wrong with this at all. In fact it sounds like the correct course of action.

I would, like OP, keep car in first for starting and crawling. No need to rush into second gear.

Yeah. Stop completely in second, don't roll into first and then change into first and you can crawl away with it in the queue until you reach enough speed to change up or else stop and repeat. Did my test last week and had to use first gear a lot more than normal and was crawling in queues a good bit.
