Mains water out - frozen pipe?

    Hi,

    The problem

So we woke up this morning to no mains water.

Trying to track down the blockage / frozen pipe

    Our neighbours are fine.

I had a look in the attic - the tank is fine (we didn't put any insulation under it) and the lagged pipes seem fine.

We have an external tap on the back wall. That hadn't frozen.

Frozen between the mains and our house?

I couldn't find anything frozen in the house but decided to turn the water off at the mains just in case.

The tap won't move, though it doesn't feel frozen itself. I warmed it up with a haridryer for about 5 minutes but it didn't make a difference.

The mains connection is at the front of the house. It is exposed just below the tap.

I think that the pipe between our house and the mains might be frozen somewhere. Does this sound plausible?

    What to do now?

What can I do now? I want to prevent damage to the house but to be honest even if I am right about where the blockage is I don't know who would deal with it. Irish Water? A plumber?

I put some rockwool around the mains tap to insulate it from further cold but that won't solve my problem now.

You will really just have to wait until it thaws now.

Is there a meter box outside? Did you look in?

Thanks for coming back folks - apologies for not keeping up on the thread. After the first day the mains came back on. Once things settle down I'll look to get someone in to figure out what might have happened.
