2007 BMW E61 LCI - 6 CD changer question - does it need to be coded?

    I have a 2007 BMW 5-series E61 LCI -523i.

VIN decoder tells me that I have option S694A on my car [Provisions for BMW 6 CD changer].

realOEM.com tells me that the CD changer unit I need is 65129131850 (plus the cartridge)
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=65_1312

Question: If I buy one of these used, do I need to code it to my car, or is it plug and play?

Also - I see some of the units on ebay include a clamp. Do I need this?

    Thanks.
    MtM

    Honestly, better options these days.
Bluetooth and stream the music. I do in the same car as you from my phone and the sound is fantastic. And the library is endless with Spotify.

Could you give me an example of a setup and what kind of kit I would need?
Would I need to upgrade the head unit?
Not too well up on ICE anymore.

You would maybe retrofit the 6FL option.
This adds usb and iPod integration.

I have it in our E60 and I use my ESB stick with music now exclusively, and don’t even carry any cd’s. I have the cd changer in the glovebox but have honestly never used it once.

As my car is LCI, I just have the standard 3.5mm AUX jack under the rear vents in the centre console.
I've used it with and old classic iPod and it's fine - just a bit fiddly with the cable.

Is the 6FL option costly? Is it easy to fit? Do you have to sacrifice anything (like the armrest cubby space)

I'd like to idea of having a stack of CDs for a long journey. I had a 6 CD changer in my old E39 and found it useful.

E60/61 CD changers appear to be available for around £60.
Just wondering if they plug straight in, or need to be coded?

There's a video of the parrot unit I have as my car doesn't have Bluetooth. Yours is a year newer and LCI so if you have the factory Bluetooth this may not even be needed.

I find this setup great both as a phone kit and for streaming music. You wouldn't find a 6 CD changer in many new cars I'd imagine.

I use Spotify in the car the whole time I'm in it using this setup.

Mines LCI too. It’s just a USB port and phono jack in the arm rest.
It’s factory fitted on my current 520d but in my previous 535d I retrofitted it to where the phono jack is located in the LCI car. Both of mine were LCI cars.

Plug this into the aux instead.
You can connect a phone (for audio only) through bluetooth and play through aux.
