Problem: Blu Ray player affecting Sky Boxes

Don't know if this is the forum for this Q.

I have a sky box in a remote press alongside an old sky box which I use for free to air. The RF outputs from both go into a splitter. The output from splitter goes to a four port distribution box then coax to two TV’s with magic eyes. All perfect, have been for years. Now I have just connected a blu ray cd player via HDMI, when powered up, it makes sky and free to air signal very snowy. As soon as I plug out the power from blu ray TV is perfect. This TV is new Sony. My second TV is a Samsung , I have a hard drive running through a WD TV box for music and photos via HDMI and a chrome cast in the 2nd HDMI. These don’t affect Sky or F to A. I changed the RF output from CH 40 to CH50 on Sky box no difference………….. Any ideas? Thanks

The blue is is beside TV we’ll away from sky box. Plugged into a different socket.

Try moving the bluray player away from the tv - the fact that the problem stops when you unplug the player suggests poor mains shielding interfering with the TV might be the source of the problem.

Hey, I can think of two issues with it. One is as Ritz said above: mains sheilding.

The other is what is known as "floating ground" - where different electrical circuits have different voltages to earth.
It's a known problem with audio equipment plugged into different sockets, so I guess it could affect video equipment too.

What I'd try first would be to run a piece of wire from the metal case of the Blu-Ray player to the metal case of the Coax distribution box. A lot of those coax boxes will have a ground screw on them for this exact purpose.

Normally equipment shouldn't be affected by this, as all grounds in your house should go to a common point - but Sky boxes (and probably Blu Ray players too) use a 2pin connector so they aren't actually grounded when you plug them in.
