High milage BMW reason to walk away?

    Hey guys,

Found a nice, high spec (iDrive, heated leather) 2010 e92 320d M Sport in the UK for a very good price. Dealership says the high milage is the reason it's cheaper compared to similar spec'd cars (160k). I've asked the dealer about the engine (notorious N47) and he said the chain etc are perfect and the car, has 11 months MOT and service history and last serviced 5k ago. I also have residence in the north so VRT etc won't applicable.

Basically, what I'm asking is would this milage put you off from the get go, or once it's been looked after and regularly serviced should the milage not matter too much?

    Cheers.

Examine the service history in detail and ring the garages that stamped it especially around the timing chain and if/when it was changed. Don't just take the dealer's word that it's "perfect" as he won't care once you drive it out of his premises. I'd also want to see proof of regular servicing around oil changes as plenty other stuff can go wrong. Presuming it's manual I'd also want to see receipts if the clutch/flywheel were replaced as it's normal at that mileage that the original flywheel maybe heading towards the end of it's life span.

If there is plenty of evidence of lots of work done on it then it could be a good buy put if the likes of the flywheel and/or chain need doing in the short term then you could potentially end up spending close to what you paid for it in replacing these components.

Ok. So are u living in the republic? Does the price actually take into account the mileage? How much more is a car with roughly half the mileage asking. That car is ten a penny, so there will be plenty of examples ...

Excellent advice. Thanks a lot. I'll get onto the dealer again.

I work in the Republic and live over the border. Well the price is 4.5 sterling and similar cars here with less miles and without idrive are 8-10k form quick look online

yeah that answers my question there, there is a significant price difference. Will probably have to give it away in a few years, but given that you are paying very little for it, thats not a problem...
