Simple question: which do you regard as the better course at Ballyliffin - the Old or the Glashedy?

Obviously the Glashedy is getting all the attention at the moment, ahead of the Irish Open, but if you've played both what's your opinion?

Which Ballyliffin course do you prefer? 3 votes

I have played both of them just the once and it was on the same day last year. I found them to be similar in quality and layout but Glashedy had a bit more variety with the shapes of the greens, bunker depths and elevation changes so it gets my vote.

    Nicely put.

I played the old course for most of my childhood golfing and I love it, but the Glashedy is a far superior course. The price difference to play them reflects this too.

The Glashedy was developed after I left home and I play it most years and it’s a really good test of golf but the old course is a bit more traditional in links style. If I remember correctly they did move a couple of holes from the old to the new course and I felt they damage the old course by doing that but I can’t remember which holes.

But this is a very simple question if you are talking about quality, If Glashedy was anywhere near Dublin people would be calling it one of the greatest courses around. Far better then the European Club.

But I still love the old course and that’s mainly due to spending a lot of summer holidays playing it over and over again with friends and family.

2 great tracks and a must for all golfers and then add in the North West in Buncrana (over 125 years old) which is a lovely track along with another 9 hole course in Buncrana which I read recently as the longest par 5 in Ireland, but I think they mean for a 9 hole track. Also, best value around.

Nick Faldo tried to buy the place from the members when he was at the peek of his powers and he still talks about the place fondly. Rory also plays it most years.
