Waiting on motor tax disc

    Hi,

I've bought a 2nd hand car and have just paid tax online. It says the disc will be out in 4 working days. I have a confirmation email saying all is paid etc.

Am I legally allowed to drive this car as long as I have a print out of all receipt etc or must I wait for disk?

    Cheers

The fine for not displaying tax disc is €60.

You're unlikely to be issued one given you have the letter.

If parked on the street a parking warden or Garda has no way of knowing that the vehicle is taxed, but even if they have the tax the fine is for non display.

They (AGS) can check the motor tax database.

They can but they can still issue a ticket for no tax displayed despite the NVF stating that the car is currently taxed.

OP, have the email on your phone in case your stopped, you'd need to really piss off the Garda for him to give you a ticket after showing that you only bought the car and have paid the tax.

    Gardai can check.

As for traffic wardens.. only a risk in public car parks or on the street. I'd hope they'd quash the fine if you produced the letter.

I got the same story years ago. I printed my insurance confirmation email, displayed on and no problem (confirmed by my driving instructor). The same way you could consider just in case a guard wanted to check.

It's not the same thing at all.

Traffic wardens can do you for not displaying a tax disc, but cannot do you for not displaying insurance.

You're OK, even if you get a fine it's just a matter of getting it cancelled.

Cancellation Request Categories: Cancellation requests fall into two categories. Category A covers mainly procedural issues. Category B relate to cancellations based on exceptional circumstances.
    Category A
Cancellation requests falling within this category include –

    .....................................

In relation to an FCN for non-display of motor tax or insurance disc, motor tax had been taken out or applied for, or in the case of the non display of an insurance disc motor insurance was in place, at the time of the alleged offence.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I disagree with you for this point. They should be able to do for all Insurance, Tax and NCT. What I wanted to mention was that a confirmation email could do as a proof that I paid things and waited for a disk to arrive in case I was stopped at a check point.
