Covert recording of a meeting with a government department

    Hi Folks
Some time ago, I was present at a meeting with a government department.  We were a subcontractor for a company with HQ outside of the state.
After the meeting, our client, to my amazement played a recording of the meeting, and I asked for a copy of the recording, which was declined, but they subsequently provided a transcription of the recording.
I am aware that recording without consent of all parties is allowed for in our statutes in respect of private conversations (single party consent), and am wondering is there another set of guidelines for meetings between companies and in particular, with a government department?
If anyone could point me at an angle for research, I'd be grateful
    Best

Talked to the the Data Protection Office in Dublin and one other nation in relation to the topic, and have contacted the company involved to determine their Data Protection Officer in order to formally make a subject access request - Dublin advised the transgression falls under 'Processing of Personal Data' under section II of the Data Protection Acts (1988, 2003)
Will post an update once I know more

I'm a bit confused. Are you saying that you are a sub-contractor to a main contractor of a Government body? And it was the main contractor, based outside of Ireland, that recorded the meeting? If so, where is the main contractor based?

It was a speculative project, the client company is out of state, our office was in Ireland, and we went to meet an Irish Government department.
I made the subject access request, it was denied under advice from their counsel, because apparently we're engaged in litigation (news to me).  I have since submitted the SAR and the response to the Irish Data Protection Commission
    The story continues ...
