Dog eating bark mulch

Hi all, I put some Bord Na Mona superfine bark mulch in my garden at the weekend to protect my budding flowers from the 'beast from the east' :p but my dog seems to love it! He's diving in eating away. I'm afraid there are toxins in it as I have read that there is cocoa bark in some mulch which makes it as bad as chocolate for them but I'm hoping as it is irish it may be ok. Does anyone have any idea?
I have emailed bord na mona and am waiting for a response.
I'd appreciate any guidance, if I have to take it up I will so be it.

Be very, very sure there's no cacao pods in it. Like crack to dogs, but highly toxic.

That's the problem, I can't find out whats in it. There's nothing anywhere on the bag. I just have to wait for them to email back. I'll probably try and take up as much as I can this evening just in case. I'd prefer my dog to the flowers!

You'd have to think there's a danger of impaction if your pooch eats too much of it too.
What a nuisance having to go rake it up on this cooollllddd day :o

So an update 3 weeks later I'm still none the wiser as to what's in the bark mulch. I took up as much as I possibly could in the coldest weather ever but he has been nibbling away at the remnants since. I have had 2 vague emails back from bord ma mona but no straight answer as to what exactly is in it. They did say there is no cacao bark in it but no indication as to what is. As a point of principle I'm going to keep asking the question, I've sent in my third request and I'm waiting for an answer back. I'll let you know if I discover the mystery ingredients 😜 dog is fine by the way 😄

That's very random that they say for definite that it doesn't have that yet won't specify what is actually in it! I would keep pushing to find out.

Do they have a Twitter account? Companies can be far quicker to engage on social media than in private because they know there's an audience reading.

Thats a good idea, might try that since I don't think I'll get an answer from my last mail. It's a matter of principle now!

I definitely don't recommend this one! The bigger mulch would probably be OK though!
