Unreasonable from Bord Gais or am I expecting too much?

I purchased new (to me!) house. It had a prepay meter in property so I paid the 200 to get replaced.

They then proceeded to install a new prepay meter as the agent at bord gais got it wrong. That was two days off work..

I rang up regarding a service on the boiler and they sold me a service package at 140 euros.

Man came round commented on it being a nice boiler, good runner etc all good. Fired it up did his business (albeit pressure seemed low but he said it was normal (reading around 1).

Half an hour after he left the boiler then packed up with an error code saying fan was broken.

They sent him around again and the fan was now broken apparently... So that cost an extra 236 euros.

2 days later the pressure is nearly at zero (he said it was okay to run low), won't turn on and there is now water underneath the pump...

This is turning farcical, as I've gone from a working boiler to having paid 376 (676 including gas meter change..) To have a non working boiler and the prospect of another large bill again?

Looking at their website they have 365 boiler care for 159 euros which is only 19 euros more than I paid for a service and includes 1000 cover along with a service. Is it a bit cheeky that I was not offered this originally? Would have had my service included and a lot of peace of mind..

Really can't afford to keep throwing money at it. :( (perils of house ownership I'm quickly learning!)

Left a bad taste in my mouth. :(

That seems reasonable, understand that. But it passed through service fine. And If I'm honest seems a bit strange I'm having troubles simply after the service. I thought it was meant to prolong the life of the boiler!

If I had my time back I'd rather have just bought a new boiler I'd there are grants available. Guessing new pump for a baxi is going to be 300 odd? So it'll be nearly 800 down at this stage? :(

Is it unreasonable for me to ask Bord Gais why I was not offered the complete care package instead of a useless service. That extra 19 euros would already have saved me 237 euros in the cost of a new fan, and now another cost in the form of possible boiler pump. And maybe I might have a boiler without pressure at 0?

Also why the boiler went from being fine before service to fan being broken half an hour later, and now a leaking pump. It could be coincidence but it seems vaguely strange..

Or am I being unreasonable? If so what is the best option for keeping my costs as low as possible?

I wouldnt consider asking that question unreasonable. You might consider the answer unreasonable, but no harm in asking.

It is unlikely that the service had anything to do with your subsequent problems. e.g. your starter or alternator could go in your car after a service without it having anything to do with the service.

You need to decide whether to keep repairing is throwing good money after bad. For that you might need the advice of a good RGII

Your best option is to get it working as soon as possible - you could be looking at burst pipes in the next few days, if your heating is not running.
