Does anyone still use a Sony phone?

So, I am coming close to the end of my Vodafone contract. I've had a Xperia z5 for nearly 2 years now. Of late its battery performance has been abysmal so I'm counting down the days. Sadly I don't have the €600+ needed these days to just buy without contract so I'm going to upgrade.
I've been pretty loyal to Sony (Ericsson) over the years. Ever since the time before the smartphone when they had a cool feature to use your phone as a remote for your laptop if you had a bluetooth connection.
I'm debating what to get. I'm dead set against Samsung for what I know is a stupid reason but I don't like how they swap around the back and the task keys on the bottom versus every other android. I'm looking at the HTC and its a contender apart from no headphone jack but now that the Xperia XZ2 was launched today without a headphone jack, I'm wondering am I just been old fashioned.
What do you guys think? Are Sony still in the flagship game? Do you think one of the older phones will do me for another 2 years?

    This too shall pass.

If it sways your mind at all the Samsung s8 has a setting to swap those bottom navigation buttons back to a normal setup..

I gave up on Sony after the Xperia t the speaker placement on it was mank.. always bound to get filled with dust.. their camera and lenses are great (samsung has over taken them recently though imo) but their software updates are horribly slow..

Z5 Compact user here. Have been Sony for as long as I can remember. They seem to be the only company that still makes phones smaller than buses. Love them.

The updates are slow? Sony are among the fastest in the android world. My xz premium got oreo last November. The note 8 still hasn't even got it..

That was my experience when I had the Xperia T .. Maybe their update cycle is faster for the flagship phones? Open to correction on it of course..

Also has had update every month since Oreo.
I also have to say that the XZP is the best android I have had. The battery life is getting longer as well.

I got a warranty swap of my almost 2 year old z3c a few months ago. It was great, like having a brand new phone. I was especially happy as none of the newer z compacts were actually as good as the z3 so I wasn’t in a hurry to pay for a downgrade. Anyway, I cracked the screen around Xmas

Work gave me an iPhone se as replacement, it’s sh!t :mad::mad:

Bought a Sony k800i new, still have it. Never missed a beat.

Actually, you’ve just reminded me that I still have a w995 (I had to google it) in a drawer somewhere, it was used as recently as last year when I was back in Ireland on the holibobs

The XA2 looks like a really decent midranger.

The Z5 was a bit of an anomaly for a Sony phone, battery life was terrible. I am currently using the XZ Premium and it is the best phone I have ever had, I cant think of anything bad to say about it

Yeah true, I believe they do have some neater phones but in the Android world, it's hard to find compact size with decent spec. Sony have always provided that for me.

You probably bought it from a mobile operator.

Have the Xperia XZ1 and think it's fine. Ticks all the boxes for me: camera, specs etc.

It's true that it would be a bit nicer with less bezel and the casing is a little slippery but it's a grand phone and, I presume because of perceived fashion issues like the above, it comes in cheaper than the other flagships despite being a perfectly good phone.

Funnily enough, the reviews I read before buying nearly all went along the line of good phone but no wow factor, outdated design etc which shows how utterly nominal the differences between premium smartphones have become.

I have the XZ1 Compact and its a great phone. Super fast, great camera, integrated fingerprint scanner on side of phone is great so quick to unlock.
I like the Sony design, dont get why everyone goes on about lack of change, apple haven't changed since 2007!

Sony phones are great, especially if you want to get plenty of action from the two year warranty that comes with it

My wife has a sony z3 for last two years and it is a great phone no trouble except for loud speaker is worse than useless. I recently bought a sony xz and it is great too except for the volume of the speakers, I think it was better before I updated software. Does anyone know if this is issue with the recent android update and maybe fixed in next update? Or is related to the phones being water proof ?

I've been using Sony since I stopped just Nokia years ago. Don't think I'd switch from Sony now. Have a XA1 for a good while now and can't really fault it

I do like sony phones but since I had areas on the z3c touch screen fail I don't really trust sony enough to get another xperia phone. It seems to be a common problem for the last few years and I still see reports of people having the problem on the z5 https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z5-Z5-Compact-Z5-Premium/z5-compact-touchscreen-acting-weird/td-p/1043339

my xperia mini is still working away as one of my spare phones

I went from a Samsung s4 or s5 to a Samsung z5 as I heard great things about the z3. I was quite disappointed. The battery was worse than the Samsung after the bedding in period. Also even though touchwiz is much maligned it was still nicer to use but maybe that was a factor as I was used to Samsung

Another issue was the lack of accessories. I always liked to use an otterbox or heavy duty case but these were unavailable as were most normal case.

Went from a Nexus to a Z3 a few years ago. Loved the pure Google experience of the Nexus but was really impressed with the Z3, especially the battery and I am a very heavy user. Now have a XZ and really like it but don't find battery life anywhere near as good as the Z3. Would definitely buy Sony again.
