Hi all, I can't seem to find a tool/workshop thread on here so please feel free to move it to one if there is one. I bought a set of sockets recently and when I went to use a 19mm socket I noticed a sparkely dust coming off the inside of the socket, like glitter so to speak, I heard it might be paint peeling off, the outside are fine you couldn't mark them at all, nice satin finish to them, am I worrying about nothing?

Is the chromium finish flaking off.
If so I’d return them for replacement.

I'm not sure? The outside of the sockets are perfect I read somewhere some manufacturers paint the inside of the sockets, supposed to be paint over chrome plating,

Straight back to the shop for replacement/refund if it's first use out of the box

You sure its not metal from whatever you were removing?

I'm certain, you can visibly see the chrome peeling from the inside, I tested another one with a screwdriver and it was like scraping paint off it. Thank you all for your replies..

Sorry, missed where it said the brand earlier. They do lovely screwdrivers.

Question remains though, were they cheap?

Certainly not cheap, 200 plus for the set, absolute beauty of a socket set..

Think Colm may have been suggesting that if you got the cheap they may not be genuine.

Either way, what did you end up doing

Where did you buy them from? If they turn out to be fakes, I'm sure Wera would be very interested in finding out where you got them.
