Central Heating on - Mains Water Off - Beast from East

Have an oil boiler central heating system. Two water tanks in the attic (the smaller one I presume is only for the central heating system).

Going to be away couple days and with the big freeze forecast, is it safe to have boiler timed to come on periodically while having the main water supply cut off and the main attic tank completely drained?

Or is there any point in looking to do this if I'm still leaving water in the central heating system?

Yes if you leave water in that (small) tank and you have no leaks. Yes its worthwhile doing that. A frost stat would be best, but timed to come on often enough to keep everything warm is a good second best.

    Thanks for the info

Think I'll drain the main water tank and have the boiler timed
