    Hi there

I've another 3.5 years left on my older style pink paper style driving license.

Trouble is its getting tatty and frayed and the plastic pocket thing disintegrated a while back.

    - Can I pass it through the laminating machine in work?

Worried this is possibly frowned upon and worst case scenario my license is no longer valid/refused by Gardai or not accepted when renewing etc?

I'd also happily just pay to get a new credit card style one and be done with it but do I have to declare mine ~lost~ and is it a major pain to do with visits to Garda station and 12 forms does anyone know?

    Ta!

You don't have to report it lost you can just request a replacement. I had to renew recently and got an appointment within 2 weeks, walked in a few minutes early and all done in 10 minutes. The walk in waiting time was 30 minutes. This is Citywest. If you change address its free otherwise you have to pay.

Edit, I wouldn't be using a laminator. I've never seen one as soft as they use on driving licence. You'll have a solid A4 licence!

You can also opt to become an organ donor. ;)

Seemingly there's an online application process due sometime in 2018.....

    - Will just hang on til then and do it all at my desk......

By that stage you'll probably need to have a public services card to get a license... adding another step in the process. I'd just book an appointment online and get it done. It only takes 5 minutes or so, provided you can get to one of the offices during the week.

address change is enough reason to replace paper with plastic license. Where are you located as I did mine recently and it was no hassle at all.

"The website of the Road Safety Authority is now sporting, as of yesterday, a disclaimer saying that the controversial PSC will be the only acceptable form of identification when it comes to applying for a new licence or renewal from 9 April this year"

If you get a replacement licence is the expiry date still the same as old one or is it 10 years from its issue. I'd be tempted myself but not much point if it expires in a year anyway. I did try send a message on their website but they didn't get to me.

Also re free for change of address, I think they did away with that as too many people were taking advantage to replace the old paper ones.

Same expiry date when replacing it, renew within 3 months of expiry and you get another 10 years.

The list here does not have a fee for changing address. IIRC they got rid of adding organ donor but that isn't listed as a charge either
