    Hey guys,

Planning to buy my first car and actually use my Learners licence that is sitting in my wallet for almost 2years. Have a €4k budget for it. I decided on two cars but, I don't know which one to pick and which one is worth it. Personally, I like the Auris better just by looks but I don't really know about cars. Also I'm open to any other car suggestion that might be better than those two and in the same price bracket :D

    Thanks!

Get insurance quotes first then come back and revise your budget.

    Ouch!!

Have you got quotes for other cars?

Suzuki Swift , Yaris or even 1.4 Focus to see if insurance comes down?

An 08 Auris would be the newer 1.33 engine while an 08 Corolla would be the older 1.4 4zz engine, i think.

The Auris is a nicer car, specially for a younger person. It's probably one of the safer bets on the 10 year old used car market too.

The Auris didn't get the 1.33 engine here until the facelift in 2010. UK models got it in 2009 while Toyota continued to sell the older 1.4 here due to having a load of them left unsold when the tax system changed. The old 1.4 on the new tax system cost €570 to tax.

    I have a 1.4 auris 08 model
Grand car plenty of space inside it. It's alot bigger then you'd think.
Quick enough when you need it to be.

Only problem I have had with it is that when going up hill it's very hard to gain speed in it until you level out.
But its expected in it , its not a powerful car. but for 1st time drivers it's probably perfect.
Also never had any problems with mine clutch went after 9 years due to wear but no other mechanic faults.
Drove to Newry on Friday from Dublin doing 120-150kmph and was averaging 6l/100km.

Like I said it ain't a powerful car it gets the job done . think my tax is 385 for the year not sure.

Corolla has better quality interior, Auris is better laid out. They’re basically the same thing though.

Found that myself when test one on hills. This was not an issue when driving the older corolla hatch with the same engine. Guess it's a heavier car.

Ya it could be a weight issue. It can be dangerous if your joining a motorway going uphill like the one near dundrum going northbound.
Also doesn't help when drivers behind you are being aggressive thinking I'm choosing to drive this speed going uphill when really my foots on the floor in a lower fear.
