Aer Lingus travel query

I’ve booked a return flight to Milan with Aer Lingus in months time, Friday to Monday however now I would prefer to take Ryanair’s flight on the Saturday and return on the already booked Aer Lingus flight on Monday. Would Aer Lingus allow my original booking to stand if I missed/skipped the departure from Dublin then turned up for the return in Milan? What if I checked in to the Aer Lingus flight from Dublin but didn’t actually get on it but obviously will get on the return Milan flight, if asked I would tell Aer Lingus that my car broke down on the way to the departure to Milan hence the reason for missing it, would that work?

You need to inform Aer Lingus you will not be taking the outbound leg

Had this been a transatlantic you would have to pay the difference between the return and single fares due to the strange world of long haul tickets.
