When should I pay the solicitor for conveyancing

I am about a week or so away from completing on a house purchase. In addition to my mortgage, my bank are lending me a sum of money to do some renovation work on the property, which will need to be drawn down by my solicitor in two instalments after the mortgage is drawn down, with the final money paid after the renovation work is complete. (Not a huge amount of work). My solicitor has already billed me for their service, which I didn't expect until the end of the process.

Is this standard? Am I out of line to assume I shouldn't have to pay them until the final renovation money has been drawn down considering they will be involved until the end?

    Maybe just ask them?

You're paying them so really they shouldn't be paid until the job is done but call them and have a chat

Cheers, will try that. I was wondering if it was standard practice, and paying them now would be a cash flow nightmare.
