Appealing VRT quote

Hey Guys,

Just looking for some advice to see if it would be worth appealing a VRT quote.

I have 430d luxury gran coupe. reg is is apr 2015

OMSP 53946
Depreciation code B1
rate of depreciation 33pc
current omsp 37589
VRT:7142

When i look at the msport equivalent
OMSP 54630
Depreciation code C1
rate of depreciation 37pc
current omsp 35793
VRT:6800

Considering the fact that m sport commands a larger price and the luxury model has been discontinued, i thought my VRT would be less than the m sport. Do you guys think it would be worth appealing it to see if anything can be done? Since this car has been discontinued im finding it hard to find the car in my category but would put it at the same value or less than msport model. Maybe im biased here as im trying to save a few quid here so im interested to see what the boards lads think.

You can only appeal if you have already paid the VRT, if you put up a good case most times you will win. It's a difference of less than 5% they will likely just give it if it's any way near.

Yea im familiar with the process. I will be paying it but im just trying to get a feel of if people think that represent what it might be worth.

I appealed a recent VRTed car I imported.

What I did was I printed off 4 Donedeal adverts advertising a similar car/spec from a SIMI garage and then calculated the average asking price. I then calculated the VRT amount based on this average with the associated %VRT rate, in my case it was 19%. I then outlined the overpayment of VRT due to be refunded to me.

I sent this off to the VRT HQ in Wexford. It took about 5 weeks for them to reply, but they "kindly" replied to me with the exact VRT refund amount I put forward.

Considering VRT is double taxation and illegal, I'm thinking of writing off again to Wexford and asking for the rest to be refunded!! :-P

Thanks. I’ll try and do that. The one thing I’m finding it difficult to do is find my spec on Carzone or done deal. Most of them are msport models

I'm in the same boat Fol. I'll be doing as stated above but using autotrader ads due to lack of petrol STs for sale here.

I don't think they care what you can buy one for in another country.

It's the only angle I have and worth a punt since I feel their OMSP is almost 3k overvalued.

Oh definitely as appealing costs nothing and if you don't ask you won't get.

Yes mine was 2k over valued. 380 Euro refund
