151 Octavia Combi 184hp DSG 4*4....

Been mulling a new car for a while now, and really like the Octavia as its very well thought of, cheap to run, reliable and very practical for my needs (room in the back for my dogs).
Was over in Wicklow today and decided to drop into the Skoda dealers there and he mentioned having the above model coming in shortly, it was 2.0 diesel, 280 tax, very well specced (only thing missing that I'd like is leather/half leather interior), approx 60k kms, and he reckoned he'd be looking for around 20-21k.

Firstly wondering if this offers value for money? Id be trading in my 04 Audi A3 1.6 petrol, only because selling it myelf is such a hassle. I know this doesnt help me in terms of a deal.
What kind of money would I save buying this in the UK, if any?
And what alternatives should I be looking at? I like the Scout version but not sure its worth the premium it seems to demand? Seat Leon Xperience is practically the same car, should I look at those?
And what differences are there between the 15 Octavia and the current model?
Im not in a rush to buy.

I’d say there’s not much experience here of the 4*4 version, I suspect Skoda didn’t sell many of them here.
That said I’d imagine it’s a fine car, I think it’s a Haldex system like the Golf R - but open to correction on this. So it’s basically a diesel VRS with a Golf R running gear. Sort of ;)
It’ll be excellent for all round traction and should be feel pokey enough - similar to a Golf GTD / diesel VRS.
There isn’t a huge difference from the 15 model to current. It’ll only be cosmetic. If anything the older car looks better. They gave it a very questionable facelift recently. The older car looks better face on at least. The newer car probably has some extra toys / better infotainment system.

The facelift gets the newer infotainment system alright, it is all touch screen with no buttons or knobs. Debatable if that is progress or not. Afaik that is the only difference inside

Would anyone know if this 2015 model has daytime running lights?
    Does the price seem reasonable?

I'm assuming it's a scout? The jacked up model? If so it's not a bad process, they hold their value quite well. It's also quicker than the RS diesel too. Will be a bit heavier on fuel with 4x4 system.

The Leon is the same car, one thing I will say is living with the Skoda interior is easier as there's more cubbies and better cup holders etc.

Price seems very OK if the 4x4ish appeals. Lease plan have a similar mileaged 15 hatch dsg asking 20k.

No its not a scout. I like that model but both would be ok for me.

No idea on if it is good value or not.. what trim is is? If it is a 184hp I am guessing it is a VRS? VRS *should* have LED daytime lights.

Style will not have had xenon's as standard and probably won't have daytime LEDs

I had assumed that it was a VRS model you were looking at... If I were you I'd personally try and get a VRS version. The "Style" trim will look and feel a bit drab imo to be honest.

Style spec on a Octavia is pretty sparse alright.

Style is the top trim of the three, Active, Ambition and Style. Obviously L&K and VRS are higher again.

Doesn't stop it being sparse though.

Although in saying that if someone went all out and bought a 4x4 one there's a chance it might have had a few options ticked.

I had a vrs 142 model..sold on donedeal and brought in a 162 scout .Top spec and saved 4500 euro....same engine but I feel the scout is a bit quicker off the mark and more comfortable all round also dsg box is a gem..hundreds to choose from in the U.K...

His price sounds cheap for a 151 vrs

    It isn't a Vrs.

    What is it then

I had a 2007 Octavia 1.9TDi 4x4 (UK spec, not scout). Older version of the Haldex coupling. Got me everywhere during the winter of 2010 with winter tyres on front only. Haldex normally puts 90+% of drive through the front, only diverts to rear when required.

    Anyhow, it averaged 50mpg.
    Now have 152 2.0l 150bhp Octavia estate.
    It averages 55mpg.
I'd say the Haldex doesn't add a massive amount to fuel consumption.

I know a guy with a high spec 4x4 hatch, fine car, and I reckon 21k would be cheap for one.

I think that's the way I'll go if I stick with getting an octavia. Is the vrs available with 4 wheel drive?

This one does, heated seats, 18 inch alloys and some others, but no leather or led lights.

It's the 2.0 diesel 184hp combi estate 4*4 in style trim, at least that's what the dealer showed me onscreen

That exact model doesn’t exist, you can only get the 184 in Scout or VRS

Assuming it’s a Scout then it’s a spec v similar to Style but has some extra like different trim, higher suspension and heated seats. Leather and Zeon’s were options

It’s a great car overall, handling not quite as good as the VRS but higher clearance and smoother especially in bad roads.

I don’t see that car on the web but honestly if you can get it for 22k and it’s in good condition then it sounds like a bargain, they are 40k new

Note servicing is slightly higher as both the DSG and four wheel drive system need special fluid changes, and it will be harder on diesel but you have a lot of benefit with extra grip especially off road or on wet muddy lanes etc.

Well the dealer showed me the car details on screen and it indicated 184hp, and he said it was 4 wheel drive. I have pictures he sent on, it's definitely not the scout or vrs, so unless he's wrongly stated the models specifics, then this model does exist.

Yeah I assumed you were talking about a VRS as well. Maybe its a 150bhp with 4x4, although i am not sure that model exists either?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

There was briefly a normal 184 dsg 4x4, reckon it may have been killed off when the scout was launched.

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭butrasgali

No such car ..2 cars have that engine..vrs and scout..

I've just cartell'ed the reg and description is as follows -
    COM STYLE 2.0 TDI 184BHP DS DSG 4X4 4DR Euro 6

    So someone is wrong!

I’ve a Leon hatch that shows up on cartel as an estate, but it’s defo not an estate!

Ques: have you actually viewed it? The Scout models have ‘Scout’ in the gearnob

As stated above, they've sent me photos of it, it's not a scout, 100% fact.
I also see their internal software system details of the car, it stated 184hp, 4*4. They sold the car so I'd assume they know it's specifics.
It would appear to me that it is or was possible to get the previous model octavia in 184hp 4wd without having to get a scout or vrs, and those saying otherwise here are incorrect.

I stand corrected, either way Scout or Style it sounds like a great car

Ah I think it is, the lack of leather and led lighting are the only thing that put me off, it would be by far the most I've ever spent on anything and for that money I'd say those two things are a must have for me.

leather in the Octavia is fakey plastic crap anyway - better without it.
