Combo box suggestions

Looking for a decent combo box. Have an Amiko alien 2 but the terrestrial reception on it is cat. I've plugged in a Samsung TV directly into the same cable and the picture was flawless.

So I'm fairly sure that the terrestrial tuner in the aa2 is cack.

So looking for a replacement combo box. Only one sat feed and one terrestrial. Not bothered about recording or any such jazz.

Have all the on demand tv that we need between now tv and Netflix so recording offers little extra. Just want functioning live TV.

It's not a cabling issue as the sat/terrestrial are carried on the same cable and split just at the tv points. The sat channels are flawless but the terrestrial are unwatchable.

So can anyone suggest a combo box with good quality tuners?

Very near the end of this video he says that the cabling could result in some loss on the terrestrial signal.

Your signal directly into the TV gives a perfect picture, but it could still be a marginal signal. There is no guarantee that a tuner in another box will be any better than the Amiko. The obvious thing would be to improve the aerial set up if that is possible. Or if you could live with it, find some way to connect the TV direct to the aerial for terrestrial, and use the Amiko for satellite only.

Is the Alien powered on when you have the cable plugged directly into the TV? If not, switch it on & see if the picture on the TV is still interference-free.

That's just given me an idea.. I'm going to disconnect the sat from the splitter and see if the reception is any better with just a tv feed

Powering off the receiver will do the same thing, as there's no feed from the LNB when it's unpowered.

Obviously the effects of this are only visible via the TV's tuner.

Right, well unless there's some problem with that particular box, like a damaged aerial connection, I think it can be safely said that the terrestrial signal isn't up to much &, if possible I'd be working on improving it.

Seeking out tuners that cope better with borderline signals seems like a bit of a last resort.

I installed my Amiko Alien 5 years ago and I need to upgrade..box is slow , menus are not responsive, reception is fine though.

What type of box should I go for..single satellite feed and saorview input and some recording is all I want

Is the box slower than what it was, or is it that your expectations now are of something better?

If the box has slowed down I would be looking at the storage set up ..... HDD. Maybe it is near full or somewhat corrupted or just plain worn out?

I reflashed mine with latest openvix

Definitely an improvement. Get another few months out of it.
