Could anyone tell me which lock nut I need to order for this car. I have a flat tyre hence I can't take the car to a garage to have it checked. Apparently there are a few types of lock nut. Been to the VW dealer, showed them a picture of the nut and another of the car and they were extremely unhelpful.

I don't understand You have a flat tyre and now you need to get the wheel off, but you cannot because you don't have the nut key?
Or you want to buy one?

If you don't have them then maybe don't get them, they are a PITA.

    Post a pic of it.

If it's a factory supplied lock nut then you cannot buy a new key.

You either can pay someone to forceably remove it or the dealer should have a master set which they can use to remove it for a small fee.

If you are bringing it to a good tyre shop, they are usually used to forceably removing lock nuts, so not having they key shouldn't be an issue for them.

Yes this is exactly the problem :)

If I was to get it on eBay I don't know exactly what to order.

Yes this is exactly my problem.

I would get one on eBay but I don't know which type is the correct one. Here's the nut:

Wonder if a bottle of TyreWeld would get me to a garage. Have bad experience in the past with that crap though! :/

You can try, but probably easiest to ring a local mech first.
They can come out and remove the locknut by various means. For instance weld a socket over it and then unscrew by using the socket.

Probably a stupid question but are you sure you've looked everywhere in the car where the socket to fit could be?

I did have a look but I vaguely remember the guy who sold me the car saying he didn't have it and me saying I would get one which I didn't I'm not 100% though. I'll have another look it'd be in the foamy thing under the boot where the wheel brace and tow hook are wouldn't it ?

I had a locking nut break on me. I knew the make, so the manufacturer (McGard) replaced it. They were able to judge what one it was from a pic of the locking key & the nut in the wheel. I did have to email them proof of ID and vehicle ownership. They were very quick to send it on too, credit to them. Even if you don't know the make, another Passat owner from that era might know?

That's where you would usually expect it but check all the compartments of the car someone could have left it anywhere. Might get lucky but it's a long shot.

I had another look around the boot compartment and no locknut key. So I went and bought a 12v pump in Argos for €13 that held it long enough to make it to a garage and I got them to change the two back tyres and remove the lock nuts completely. No more messing with that s**t. They are only a deterrant anyway, completely useless and more hassle then they are worth. Problem solved now and for the future :) Thanks all!
