Hi, might be of interest to budding photographers out there. Currently £129, with free delivery on Amazon. These are for sale in B&M for €300+ everywhere I've looked. Mine arrived this morning and it is the genuine article. Tiny lens for such a zoom range. Very handy addition to any camera bag

For anyone that has an 18-55mm lens that came with your camera, this lens is almost exactly the same size.

My wifes Nikon camera came with a 18-55mm lense, and she is looking to upgrade. Is this a good option?

Sits in or around that price regularly if you're going to buy from a 3rd party on Amazon, tbh: https://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Nikon-20050-NIKKOR-55-200-Camera/product/B00RUBK53Y

Those are almost certainly grey imports, and if you are going that route, E-infinity (get good feedback on the Photography forum here) plus parcel motel will get the same lens to you for about 20GBP less again: https://www.e-infin.com/uk/item/2566/nikon_af-s_dx_nikkor_55-200mm_f/4-5.6g_ed_vr_ii_lens

It's not an upgrade, they were designed to work together - It's basically the same lens extended from 55 to 200mm.

If she is looking for a longer zoom range, somewhat yes. What is she looking for in an upgrade?

This is not a wider lens. In fact it is the exact opposite! It's a "long" zoom lens.

Typically you'd buy this for getting into shooting wildlife, or even sports. It's not a fantastic lens, but for the money it's a relatively cheap way to get a long lens.

Are you sure it's not longer, as in larger zoom? 18mm is the wide end (although some lenses will go wider to 10mm or even 8mm).

Or maybe a wider aperture? I think this might be what a course would require before a longer zoom. Have a look for a 50mm or 35mm f1.8.

Maybe its just me, but a Chinese website at that price doesn't say grey import, it screams fake. I've just registered mine on the Nikon website, and it is genuine.

I can understand your scepticism, and I haven't used the site myself (but may do shortly), but as I said, plenty of satisfied customers over in the photography forum here, and frankly given the differential from the RRP for the both vendors, it doesn't necessarily seem any more likely to be a fake than something bought from an Amazon storefront (Amazon themselves are not offering the price you quoted, after all).

Trustpilot for E-infinity is also very positive: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/e-infin.com, and they ship from the UK in a similar drop-shipping model to Oneplus

Do your homework; a prime might be the way to go, particularly if portraits are going to be a focal point going forward (no pun intended)

This is a pretty price for the Lens. As an amateur photographer I used to have the 2 lens setup, but in the end I went with a Tamron Superzoom
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tamron-18-200mm-B018N-3-5-6-3-Black/dp/B013HXY21E . The quality is not as good as using separate lenses, but for me the trade off was worth it, as lugging around an extra lens on holiday is annoying, and I am paranoid about letting dust into the body with the constant swapping.

Amazon don't entertain fulfilling orders for people if they are shipping fakes, so I get a small crumb of comfort for that. Anyway, each to their own.
Its a brilliant lens for that price, I'm sorry I didn't have it a few weeks ago when I was at an event with a 200mm lens limit.

Maximum aperture isn't the best but if genuine the quality of lenses used will be decent enough. I think 'fulfilled by Amazon' from China might prevent Customs & Excise. However I suggest confirming this as if not import fees will add a hefty financial chunk.

It's a large enough zoom range so more astigmatism etc is likely in photos. Basically distortions in straight lines. Good quality fixed lens are always better quality picture wise and usually with much bigger apertures. Though the wider the aperture the higher the price due to components required.

    Good price though.

Not needed, but there's definitely a saving to be made from it on some items, e.g. https://www.e-infin.com/uk/item/3089/nikon_af-p_dx_nikkor_70-300mm_f/4.5-6.3g_ed_vr_lens vs https://www.e-infin.com/eu/item/3089/nikon_af-p_dx_nikkor_70-300mm_f/4.5-6.3g_ed_vr_lens The latter is "free" delivery to Ireland from the EU site, but it's about 30 euro more expensive than the sterling price. The 55-200mm lens is much less extreme in the differential, at 105GBP vs 125 EUR, so perhaps I was looking at a bad example. :o

Obviously if you're spending in the region of thousands, then paying the shipping from the UK may not be as much of a factor though :)

    Good detective work :)
    I hadn't spotted that.
