I stayed a few doors up in the Hotel Mercure París Montparnasse Raspail and it was a lovely hotel too. I'm not sure I'd class it as near the Eiffel Tower though (3.5km walk). That said, it was very convenient using the Metro to get anywhere with 2 stops (Vavin & Raspail) within walking distance that could bring you anywhere in Paris you wanted to go.

Would the metro get you out to disneyland?

No, you get the Metro to Chatelet Les Halles and then get an RER A train to Disneyland. It’s very straight forward, takes about 45 mins. Is there a reason you want to stay by the Eiffel Tower? It wouldn’t be my favourite part of Paris. Something in the 5th or 6th Arr would be my choice. Lovely vibrant area and more central IMO.

You get a RER train from Châtelet - Les Halles Station to Disneyland and the Metro will bring you from the hotel to that station yes.

The Metro system in Paris is so easy to navigate particularly with Google Maps. Just search for where you want to go and Google Maps will tell you exactly which metros to get.

Other half is mad to see this, I've very little travel experience, same for her so was gonna use there as a base and branch out...

As Fletch says, the Paris metro network is fantastic and everywhere is within easy reach. Eiffel Tower is easily accessible by metro or even by walking, I just wouldn’t choose to stay there. It’s not the nicest part of Paris and if you look at the map, you’ll see it’s a bit far out from the rest of the sites. The 5th or 6th Arr would offer a much more charming area, with a vibrant night life and easy walk to many sites.

Buy a pack of 10 metro tickets and it works out at €1.50 per metro journey (your journey might involve multiple metros).
