Getting actual line speed from eir

    Hi all,

Having a frustrating issue here. I'm looking at a property where the current owner said that he was told by eir that the broadband speed available was good but he didn't bother with it because he didn't need it. He still has the telephone number that was associated with the property though.

I got in touch with eir today and I had the address (as it is on the Fibre rollout map!), the eircode, and the old line number. They just fobbed me off and said that they can't find the property on their database. I don't know how that could be the case because there was previously a phone service at the very least at the premises.

The took my details and told me they'd be back to me in a week. Does anyone know if there's a way I can do this myself? The fibre rollout map will only tell me that there's no fibre available which isn't at all helpful.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

If the line was cancelled more than 366 days ago then it could well have expired and been removed, thus it wouldnt exist for prequalification.

Finding another premises within 200m will give you a decent idea.

You can do address checks on the eir.ie website - just select Broadband and enter the address. You can also check eir's Rural FTTH database and map on fibrerollout.ie As Ed E says, checking by previous phone number could be unreliable, as the number may have been recovered. It may also have been ported to another location or network. If the current owner doesn't have a working service, then eir could have recovered the copper pair closer to the exchange, to serve a working customer. If you can't see a working service at the house, there is no guarantee that you will get it in the future. I wouldn't take the risk, even if you confirm that a neighbour has working service. The small print when you order includes loads of indemnities relating to service not being guaranteed until the order is processed.

Thanks all, unfortunately the address is ambiguous enough for me not to be able to find the neighbour's speed without the telephone number too. Will have to keep looking. Thanks!

Establish the Eircode for the property & use that to check for broadband availability.
